Detect illegal gold mining sites thanks to satellite

The illegal gold mining poses significant environmental problems but can easily be detected by satellite images analyzis.

Valéry Gond, from BSEF Unit Research, developed detection software for such sites in Guyana, in partnership with ONF. This software, in effective use since 2008, was just subject of an article from CNES dedicated to young audiences.
