Setting up of a seminar on PES in the PESMIX project

The BSEF unit as coordinator of PESMIX project will organize a seminar entitled "How to articulate Payments for Environmental Services to other political and economic instruments in the South and the North countries" to be held in Montpellier from 11 to 13 June 2014 at Agropolis or on Lavalette CIRAD site.

Payments for Environmental Services (PES ) are based on the idea of paying ​​economic agents for their contribution to the preservation of ecosystems, driven by the services that they provide to companies. These became essential instruments in environmental policy, especially in South countries where they can also meet the objective of poverty reduction. In North countries, PES are also used to improve the sustainability of agricultural practices such as agro-environmental measures of Common Agricultural Policy.

The Pesmix project "Payments for environmental services: new panacea or useful auxiliary for land management" is a research project over three years to understand the supply and articulation of PSE with other instruments already used to manage environmental issues.
A seminar entitled "How to articulate Payments for Environmental Services to other political and economic instruments in the South and North countries", and organized under PESMIX will be held in Montpellier from 11 to 13 June 2014, at Agropolis or CIRAD Lavalette site .

This event will bring together many projects and French and European organizations: Biodiversity subsidiary of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, the SERENA project (Environmental Services and customs of rural areas), the POLICYMIX project (Assessing the role of economic instruments in measures combinations for the conservation of biodiversity and the supply of ecosystem services), the INVALUABLE project (Integrating assessments, markets and policies for biodiversity and ecosystem services), the Group for Research and Technological Innovations, the Law and the Environment French Company  and the Unit research IODE (West Institute: Law and Europe).
200 people around the world are expected, allowing to reconcile not only the actors of the South countries and of the North countries, but also to bring together scientists  and public and private actors, especially from the Languedoc- Roussillon region .
