Tropical forests of Africa: Past, Present and Future

A special issue of the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B on tropical forests in Africa has just been published. Two articles, one written by Valéry Gond, summarize some of the results obtained in the framework of the European project CoForChange coordinated by CIRAD. A second article, written by Sylvie Gourlet-Fleury presents 24 years of evolution of a tropical forest exploited in Central African Republic.

Tropical Africa has the second largest area of ​​tropical forest in the world . This represents approximately 30% coverage of the world's remaining tropical forest. This forest provides huge ecological, social and economic services to local populations, to States and to international community.
In a special issue just published, the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B devotes its columns to African tropical forests. Sylvie Gourlet-Fleury and Valery Gond of UR goods and services of tropical forest ecosystems have each published an article. A third article is published as part of coordinated project CoForChange (Oslisly et al.) by CIRAD on global change on forests of the Congo Basin. Other UR scientists - Bénédet Fabrice, Guillaume Cornu, Charles Doumenge, Nicolas Fauvet, Frederic Mortier and Nicolas Picard - have contributed to these articles. These are freely available and all abstracts were exceptionally translated in French.
