With the support of COMIFAC [1], The CIRAD is coordinating in 2010 a prospective analysis on forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin outlook for 2040 (CBFA 2040). This analysis is the first of its type, since the prospective exercise of the FAO (FOSA 2000).

Description
The rapid changes in the environment (institutional, political, ecological, social, economic, ..) and stakes related to global change (including climate change) in Central Africa are a source of tension and question, but also, sources of opportunities. This project aims to inform policy choices of national decision-makers, regional and international, in bringing understanding and reading elements of the possible future of forest ecosystems in Central Africa.
This analysis will allow to :
- Identify the major variables that may disrupt and / or to influence the dynamics of past and actual of Forest Ecosystems in the Congo Basin
- Provide to policy-makers and institutional, elements of reflection in order to the development of national and regional policies
- Reinforce the shared view of the Congo Basin countries and of partners on the condition of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin
Cette démarche prospective est calée sur une méthodologie éprouvée et adaptée aux spécificités du sujet, aux acteurs. Elle contribuera à développer une expertise internationale et régionale, avec l’appui du cabinet Futuribles. Elle se déroule sur une durée de 10 mois à partir de mars 2010 et fournira aux décideurs politiques des pays concernés ainsi qu’aux organisations et processus internationaux une vision large et partagée des futurs possibles ainsi que des éléments de compréhension lors des négociations internationales en cours, par exemple sur le changement climatique (COP[2] 16)
This forward-looking approach is secured on a proven methodology, adapted to the specificities of the subject, on the actors. It will help to develop an international and regional expertise with the support of the agency Futuribles. It takes place over a period of 10 months from March 2010 and will provide to policy makers in the concerned countries, as well as international organizations and processes, a large shared view of possible futures, as well as elements of understanding to current international negotiations, e.g. on climate change.
