Description

The rapid changes in the environment (institutional, political, ecological, social, economic, ..) and stakes related to global change (including climate change) in Central Africa are a source of tension and question, but also, sources of opportunities. This project aims to inform policy choices of national decision-makers, regional and international, in bringing understanding and reading elements of the possible future of forest ecosystems in Central Africa.

This analysis will allow to :

  • Identify the major variables that may disrupt and / or to influence the dynamics of past and actual of Forest Ecosystems in the Congo Basin
  • Provide to policy-makers and institutional, elements of reflection in order to the development of national and regional policies
  • Reinforce the shared view of the Congo Basin countries and of partners on the condition of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin

This forward-looking approach is secured on a proven methodology, adapted to the specificities of the subject, on the actors. It will help to develop an international and regional expertise with the support of the agency Futuribles. It takes place over a period of 10 months from March 2010 and will provide to policy makers in the concerned countries, as well as international organizations and processes, a large shared view of possible futures, as well as elements of understanding to current international negotiations, e.g. on climate change.
