Science-Policy Interfaces for Biodiversity : Research, Action and Learning - SPIRAL

The overall aim of SPIRAL is to enhance the connectivity between biodiversity research and policy.

Project start date:

01/05/2010

Project end date:

01/08/2013

Objectives

Although the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity are fundamental to human well-being, these issues bring unprecedented challenges up at the interface between science and policy.

The project proposes at first a state of the research art and development at the stage of science-policy interfaces. Then, it will get involved in the practical development of a dozen tools for decision making. SPIRAL will produce the scientific literature in the domain of science-policy interfaces, as well as detailed reports on art state of these tools and development platforms for decision making in real cases. These results will be broadcasted and shared through workshops, internet and another networks to give benefits of result to the decision-makers and other actors involved in the management of biodiversity.

The SPIRAL project support CIRAD in the development of AfriSeb, which has for ambition to become the social network for Africa on biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
